45+ Games & Activities for Virtual Playdates

Are you looking for fun ways for your child to connect with their friends while social distancing? Although virtual playdates are not as ideal as being together in the same place, these games and activities can make the separation fun. Here are over 45 entertaining games and activities for your child’s next virtual playdate.

Charades
How to play: Choose a person, place, or thing. Act it out without saying any words, and see if your friend can guess what you’re acting out.

Hangman
How to play: Choose a word and draw a dash for each letter in the word. Have your friend guess a letter in the word. If the letter is in the word, write it in the blank. If the letter is not in the word, begin drawing one part of the gallows. Your friend can keep guessing until you’ve drawn the entire gallows.

Never Have I Ever
How to play: Each friend puts two hands up where both can see. One friend asks a question. (“Never have I ever eaten brussel sprouts.”) If the other friend has done that, they have to put a finger down. The first person with all fingers down, wins or the last person with a finger up, wins.

Pictionary
How to play: Choose a person, place, or thing. Then try to draw it without saying a word and see if your friend can guess what you’re drawing.

Read My Lips
How to play: Put yourself on mute, and choose a word or phrase to say to your friend. See if they can guess what you’re saying just by reading your lips.

Truth or Dare
How to play: Ask your friend a question and they have to tell the truth. If they choose Dare, dare them to do something silly (but safe).

Two Truths & A Tale
How to play: Tell your friend three things about yourself. Two should be true, and one should be untrue. Have them guess which one is a tale.

Would You Rather?
How to play: Think of your own questions or simply google “Would You Rather Questions For Kids.”

20 Questions
How to play: Think of a person, place, or thing. Your friend can ask you up to 20 questions in order to gather information. You can only answer “Yes” or “No.” See if they can guess what you’re thinking of before they run out of questions.

Battleship
How to play: The Battleship board game is optional. Simply create a Battleship board with the same letters and numbers on your grid. Without your friend seeing, place three ships on the grid. Then, take turns trying to hit and sink each other’s ships.

Board Games
Find board games in your house that your friend also has in his/her house. Fun suggestions are classic games like Monopoly, Boggle, Taboo, Sorry, Hedbanz, Pictionary, Connect 4, Chutes and Ladders or Guess Who. If both parties own the same version of the game, then it’s an easy setup!

Storytime
The kids can pick out one or two of their favorite storybooks and read it aloud to one another or a grownup can read.

Crafts
Find a printable craft online and have each parent print it out, then the kids can do it together and show off their finished projects.

Play-doh
The kids can create different people, places or things out of Play-doh and have the other child guess what it is.

Build
Have the children create designs using blocksK’Nex or Legos and show one another what they made.

Magic Show
The kids can do a magic show. Have them take turns creating their own magic tricks for one another. Plan this ahead of time so your child has plenty of time to practice.

Talent Show
The kids can show off their singing, dancing, baton twirling, hula hooping, whatever it may be! Plan this ahead of time so your child has plenty of time to practice their talent.

Virtual Show and Tell
The kids can take turns showing off their favorite toys.

Color Together
The kids can color and show it to their friend when they are finished.

Self Portraits
The kids can draw portraits of each other and show it to each other once finished.

Science Experiment
Take turns doing science experiments. This one may need a grownup’s assistance.

Illustrate a Story
Illustrate a story and take turns reading it aloud to one another. 

Snack Time
The kids can enjoy eating a snack together.

Ice Cream Social
The kids can enjoy eating ice cream together.

One parent plays the music while the kids dance.

The kids can read a book then discuss what they did/didn’t like about the story.

The grownup can read a story then the kids can do a related craft together. This will require advance preparation by each grownup.

The kids can take turns naming an emotion and their friend has to show that emotion.

The kids can create silly hats, glitzy hats, crazy hats, character hats, or theme hats by using a paper plate, crafting supplies and a good imagination.

Fashion Show
Put on a fashion show using costumes, dress up clothes or even your parents clothes.

Indoor Scavenger Hunt
Give the kids a list of everything to find in the house and the kids must find it and put it in a pile. Include pictures for younger kids.

Pokemon Go
Pokemon Go lets kids interact with friends and even track their activity in the game.

Caribu is a video-calling app that lets kids read books together, play games and color during a video call.
